Please note that there is a significant road closure that will affect the A5271 heading through Keswick in both directions.
Cumbria County Council are carrying out a Flood Alleviation Scheme on Penrith Road (A5271) close to Greta Street, Keswick. It is expected to finish in December 2019.
Coming from the Cockermouth direction, once in Keswick you will need to turn right onto Southey Street just after the traffic lights at the Cenotaph. Follow Southey Street for approximately 200m and turn left onto Helvellyn Street.
Coming from the Penrith direction, you can either follow the diversion along the A66 or head into Keswick via the A591 (usual route), turning right onto the A5271. You will need to turn left onto Brackenrigg Drive followed by a right onto Blencathra Street, a left onto Skiddaw Street and finally a right onto Helvellyn Street. Or a 100m further along the A5271, take a left onto Wordsworth Street followed by a right onto Helvellyn Street. The road is closed around Greta Street!
Please note that there are significant road works on the M6 around Junction 33/34. This is due to Highways England removing a damaged bridge.
We therefore strongly urge you to plan your journey and/or trips accordingly to negate this closure or any expected delays and/or plan with sat nav, maps or online route planners such as The AA or RAC.
We very much look forward to welcoming you.
